Unplug devices from your laptop
Whether it is a USB device or a second monitor through VGA, any device that is plugged into your laptop eats battery because the device will require CPU to work in order to access the device. There are certain USB devices that consume a great deal of power, meaning they will drain the battery quickly. So, my friend, you should unplug the device you are not using. Never keep it plugged into the laptop. This will surprisingly save your battery.
Shutdown or activate sleep mode when not in use
You are working on your laptop. Suddenly, you have to go on an errand. If the charger is not connected, you should shut down your laptop or activate the sleep mode. This saves the battery. When you activate the sleep mode, your laptop will resume from the point you have left it before. On the other hand, if you shut down the laptop, it will go through the bootup sequence, which may consume a bit of power. So sleeping mode is the best option.
Activate power saver button
When you activate the power saver button on your laptop, the operating system of your machine adjusts software and hardware behavior to use less power from your machine. The power saver option has an ability to change the behavior of hard drive or CPU in such a way that it will be active only when it is required to perform certain functions. If not required, the hardware will remain inactive to conserve energy. My friend, activate power save option to save the battery of your laptop.
Turn off wireless and Bluetooth
Your laptop will always try to search for Bluetooth and wireless connections if you leave these functions active. So, if you do not need these connections, it is always better to disable these features. Doing so will certainly save your laptop battery.
There is no secret that laptops can easily overheat. A great piece of equipment to overcome this issue is the chill mat which is very effective at keeping the hardware cool. It simply sits under the laptop and helps to disperse heat via its built-in fans. Make sure to use the ergonomically design that makes it a lot easier to type.
Extended laptop battery
By replacing the standard battery that comes prepackaged with the laptop, you are able to enjoy the extended battery life that makes it possible to stay working unplugged for a lot longer while travelling. This can also be helpful if you are in a meeting that doesn’t have any spare power sockets and you wish to continue using the laptop.
If you plan to use the laptop while travelling to and from work on a bus or train, you may want to look at a privacy screen to keep your personal information secure. This type filter is placed over the laptop screen and only makes it possible for the person sitting directly in front of laptop to read the documents you are working on. This means that anyone sitting next to you on the train isn’t able to see the information on-screen should they glance across.
Travelling with several USB sticks makes it possible to store and back up any important data. Plus, they are useful for sharing existing data, such as text files or images with colleagues. Most of the USB sticks are relatively small in size, yet still have great memory space to easily store plenty of information when on the go.
It can take a few minutes to a few hours to erase data on a drive. Before initiating the process of erasing your disk, it is important to backup any data you may want to keep. This is because once the data on the drive is erased completely, it will be impossible to retrieve it from the drive. Remember multiple drives sometimes exist on a hard drive.
2.Download a data destruction program
There are several ways often used to erase hard drives. However, most of the data destruction software offers an easy way of erasing data in storage devices, while allowing the device to be used again. If you like, you can download any suitable free data destruction program. Furthermore, consider burning the ISO file in a disc or undertake any other steps required to install software or get programs on bootable disc.
3.Erase according to program’s instructions
Finally, consider wiping the drive based on the program’s instructions. Most of the data destruction programs use multiple techniques to wipe data from the drive. Therefore, you may consider checking out the effectiveness of every method utilized to complete the wipe. Once you have cleaned up a drive, you can rest assured all the data on the hard drive is gone for good. Therefore, you can now do whatever you need to do; perhaps install a new operating system on the drive, create new partition, give or sell the storage device or computer, dispose of or recycle it.
· Restoring valuable parts
Although outdated computers are inefficient and ineffective, recycling computer parts can prove very helpful. The choice to recycle computers offers an effective way of preventing valuable parts ending up in landfills. Usable parts can be salvaged, offering ways of reusing or restoring them. Furthermore, the computer can be fixed and resold or donated to charity.
· Saving the environment
Computers are categorized as hazardous household waste. Unfortunately, many of these machines end up in landfills- with batteries being a common feature in many of these landfills. The batteries contain many heavy metals including cadmium and nickel. The cathode ray tubes contain lead while the motherboards have chromium. This ends up adding toxic chemicals to the air, soil and ground water. Recycling computers involves taking a machine that is destined for the landfill and improving their lifespan. Ultimately, the process helps to prevent harmful toxins entering the environment.
· Get some cash
An outdated computer may not sell. However, the decision to recycle the computer makes the computer useful. As a result, the organization will be in a position to fetch some money from reselling the machine. IT recycling is becoming a competitive sector. Therefore, it is advisable to consider several quotes before choosing a recycling company, to derive maximum benefits.
· Increase affordability
Recycling computers helps in improving the affordability of computers. Therefore, computer buyers can spend less on their computers because a recycled computer is cheaper. Many times, organizations choose to donate their recycled computers to charity.
· Recycled parts used in many ways
Many parts in the PC, including the plastic cases, keyboards and cathode ray tubes can be used in many ways. The glass in PCs contains lead which is often removed and in turn used for make recycled glass while metal parts are sold as scrap. The plastic case that plays an important role in housing the computer is often used to fix potholes.
